Recounting personal experiences is an activity that develops in early childhood and becomes one of the most ocmmon texts used by children.  when children first begin to write they usually communicate events and experiences in which they have personally participated.  These early written recounts tend to be the same as the writers' spoken recounts.  In the classroom teachers need to provide opportunities to allow the children to explore recounts and to develop the skills necessary to take them beyond the spoken to the written form.
